Pieces Of Jamaica

Sea Sales by David I. Muir, Pieces of Jamaica

I asked David a few questions about his craft a while ago and thought I would share so that everyone will learn a little more about the artist and his passion for his art.

When did you first come to love photography and who or what inspired you to want to pursue it?

As long as I've had access to using a camera I have loved photography. I started in the early 1980s using my father's camera while I was in high school.

Are you trained/schooled in photography? If yes, where. If no, do you think it's necessary to be professionally trained?

I have recently taken photography courses to hone my skills as a professional, however, I was not formally trained in photography. I did not take any photography classes prior to pursuing the love of the art.

Do you like to take certain types of photos? If yes, what are they and why?

DAvid I. MuirI love candid photography because it allows me to capture things as they are. I really love telling a story through the still moment.

What cameras do you own and like to use?

I own many cameras, all Canon, but I most love using my Canon 7D. I hope to buy the Canon 1Dx when it comes out in March 2012.

I know you are inspired by a lot of things and are very creative. What other types of Creative endeavors have you been on recently and are involved in at the moment?

I am inspired by culture and inner beauty. I am pursuing the capture and preservation of Jamaican culture through still moments. I also love all aspects of Jamaican culture and hope to share the varied performance art forms of creative expression with the help of other artists.

What made you decide to publish your upcoming book, "Pieces of Jamaica?"

Short answer? I want to share the work that I am pursuing with as many people as possible and the book is an excellent vehicle to do so and to assist with re-cupping the costs involved in pursuing my passion for candid photography.

Can you provide us with samples of your favorite pieces for the world to see?

Sure! Check out piecesofjamaica.net or Facebook

What's next for you and your photography?

Completing the collection "Pieces of Jamaica." Until I feel that work is complete, I do not wish to start another huge project. I hope to document other Caribbean, South American & Latin American nations through my photography soon there after.

David is also a professional photographer based out of the Fort Lauderdale / Miami area. For information about his services check out DAVIDiPhoto
