Unlocking the secrets of LInkedIn for nonprofits and social services. (Part 2)

 

Many people have been telling you to get active more on Social Media, and you are just plain tired of hearing about it! Why? You don't have the time, don't understand it, don't have the patience or resources (money) to manage it and don't see how it can benefit you!

What if I told you, you could benefit from Social Media without investing lots of time and money? What if I told you, you already have what it takes to build a solid presence on Social Media? Would you like to know if all that was true?

The first step is to get in the game!

You have to be on Social Media to take advantage of it. My goal is to guide you in the Social Media game starting with LinkedIn.

LinkedIn is much more than a job search site. LinkedIn is the 3rd largest and fastest growing Social Media platform. LinkedIn is a giant Rolodex… As I mentioned last time it is a free service designed to connect you with like-minded individuals, help you source quality volunteers, staff and board members.

You may already have a LinkedIn account but, you don't use it much or understood how it could work for you. If that's the case, these articles will be helpful. There are many little-known features of LinkedIn that most users aren't aware of. Features that will help you in your networking on LinkedIn.

The first key to LinkedIn's secrets for nonprofits is to ensure your profile is up to date.

Here are 5 quick things you can do immediately to polish up your nonprofit's LinkedIn profile:

1. A current, professional photo, preferably a headshot.

2. An updated profile headline. Example, I provide economic support to single moms in Miami.

3. Include your location in your profile.

4. Update your contact info. Include your twitter handle if you have one.

5. Edit or write a profile summary describing your nonprofit. Describe your role and the work of your organization. Emphasize the effectiveness of what the organization does.

With these 5 steps you will be on your way to building a strong network of resources. A well thought out LinkedIn profile is your resume and a marketing vehicle for your nonprofit.
